
Belmahdi Helps Lead Monroe Mustangs Men’s Cross Country to 16th-Place Finish at NJCAA Championship Meet
TALLAHASSEE, Fla., November 12, 2022 – After coming into the 2022 NJCAA Div. I Men's Cross Country Championships as the No. 25-ranked team in the NJCAA, the Monroe College Mustangs men's cross country team outperformed their ranking, placing 16th out of 29 teams in Saturday's championship meet at Apalachee Regional Park.
Karim Belmahdi led the pack for Monroe, taking 31st overall out of 201 runners in the race. His time of 26:16.6 also earned him United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA Div. I Men's Cross Country All-American honors by finishing in the top 15 percent of the field.
Prince Mcabelo was Monroe's next finisher, clocking in at 27:48.9 at the meet to finish 71st overall. Wayne Stephenson followed him up with a time of 30:42.0 on the 8K course. Jonathan Hackshaw clocked in at 30:53.7, and then Leroy Chapman finished with a time of 31:07.7. Ethanael Elliott capped things off for Monroe with a time of 35:55.7.
Saturday's meet wrapped up the 2022 campaign for the Mustangs. The program will return to competition during the 2023 NJCAA indoor track and field season beginning in the winter.
