Suffolk Advances to National Tennis Tournament in Dramatic Fashion

In one of the most closely contested Region XV Tournaments in many years, the Suffolk Community College Sharks were able to slip past the Rockland Community College Hawks to win their first Region XV Championship in four years. Suffolk won a 10-10 tiebreaker by winning four flight championships to Rockland's three. A disappointed Rockland team was searching for their first title in over 30 years.

The two-day tournament was hosted by Suffolk County Community College in Selden.

Nassau's Mike Nelson quietly defeated Casey Trotta of FIT (6-3, 6-3) in the First Singles bracket. He then teamed up with Jace Koretz and defeated Kingsborough's Osei Harris and Jonathan Cook (6-1, 6-1) to claim the First Doubles title.

Nelson was named the Region XV Player of the Year while Suffolk head coach Chris Cosenza was honored with the Region XV Coach of the Year award. The tournament was also noted as the first in modern memory to have all participating schools represented in a final match.
