Nassau's Joshua Roca Qualifies for Bowling Intercollegiate Singles Championship

Nassau Community College's Joshua Roca earned himself a spot on Friday in the USBC Bowling Intercollegiate Singles Championship Tournament after finishing in second place at the ISC Sectional Qualifier in Stratford, New Jersey.

"This was the most stressful day ever," said Roca. "It still hasn't sunk in yet."

The event featured bowlers from some of the top collegiate programs in the northeast vying for one of 24 spots in the National Tournament.

With a field of 142 bowlers and only five advancing, the odds were long. However, Roca stayed close to the cut line all day. The left-hander fired games of 234, 233, 209, 191, and 215 to put himself in fourth place after five games. Then, he guaranteed himself a top five finish with a 248 in game six.

Roca's 1,330 series, which gave him a six game average of 221.67, placed him safely in the cut, ahead of the sixth place finisher by 37 pins. He trailed tournament leader David Lance of Webber International University by only ten pins.

The Intercollegiate Singles Championship Tournament is set to take place April 13-17 in Wichita, Kansas.
